Rules of Engagement

For all my friends that attended my Alma Mater, this might sound VAGUELY familiar: Is chivalry dead, and who killed it*? Ahhh the long standing question that funnily enough, only men seem to want to know the answer to. Nothing is as it was. Women are no longer being "presented" to society anymore, women have become more independent and housewives are a thing of the past (unless you're in Atlanta, Orange County of New York). The times are certainly a'changing.

*That may not be the exact title, but you know what I mean.

BUT!

Yes, there is a but, certain things have remained the same. Women still want a man who will take charge, who will treat them like goddesses, who will respect them, cherish and look out for them. No, we are not looking for daddies, we are looking for men. GENTLEMEN!

Here's why I'm mad:

THERE ARE NONE!!!! A girlfriend of mine (who is the inspiration for this post) went out on a date last weekend with a guy who looked at her indignantly when she did not immediately jump to pay for her tab. At no point should a woman have to pay for herself when she is asked on a date. She can offer out of the goodness of her heart, but she is not obligated.

As a rule of thumb, I never go on a date unless I have money to pay for myself. However, if I go out on a date with a guy and I have to pay for myself, that is the end of that relationship.

PERIOD.

NO, chivalry is not dead. You men would like us to believe that we are the ones who killed it, but that is just a pitiful excuse to get out of doing what you are supposed to as a real man. Open the door for a woman, open her car door, pay for the check when taking her out (no we cannot go dutch), look into her eyes when conversing, not her mouth or her breasts, treat her how you would expect someone to treat your mother or your daughter.

Above all, treat her with respect. We deserve it.
